This skate deck by New Zealand artist Jacob Yikes is one of over 40 one-off original skatedecks that were designed by artists for Limn Gallery's first show of 2023 - FREESTYLE.
This one-of-a-kind original work has been produced using acrylic and water colour on board.
Featuring over 50 talented artists from around New Zealand, FREESTYLE features a blend of original artwork on skateboard decks, sculptures, and a series of photographs by award winning photographer, Petra Leary.
This unique and dynamic showcase of creativity is a celebration of the intersection of skateboarding and art, two distinct forms of self-expression that have long been intertwined. FREESTYLE aims to highlight the unique ways in which artists have interpreted the relationship between these two forms of expression.
Each skatedeck in the show is a canvas for the artist to express their own unique style, techniques and perspectives, resulting in a diverse and eclectic collection of pieces.

About The Artist:
Jacob Yikes, born Jacob Ryan, is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Ōtautahi, Christchurch. He has an extensive background in graffiti and large scale street based work and is a member of the DTR crew. Jacob has headlined and been involved in a number of street/mural art festivals over the years, including Rise, Spectrum, Paradox, South Sea Spray and Flare. As well as having a heavy presence in the street art scene, Jacob also has a diploma in fine arts and has been exhibiting works in several solo and group shows over the past decade. His studio-based work often portrays a more abstracted approach to his work with the use of expressive brushstrokes and a more in-depth look into his subconscious and visions.
